Please Support Our Community Project

An Open Letter from Brad White, Windermere Fitness Park, Project Organizer

Dear Friends & Neighbours,

Many people in the east side neighbourhood where I work value and live an active life.  This has been negatively affected by our current circumstances. Youth, adults, and especially seniors are looking for ways to improve their physical and mental health during these difficult times, but restrictions are limiting the options. Gym memberships may not fit into the budget or they may be closed entirely. A zero-cost outdoor exercise option would be appreciated by all.

My name is Brad White. I am the Physical and Health Education Department Head at Windermere Community School. I believe that creating an outdoor fitness park at the edge of the school campus that is easily accessible to everyone will be a valuable community asset. Everyone in the community, from students who are missing their school clubs and sports, to seniors who are having to forego their usual group exercise sessions, will be able to visit a dedicated outdoor fitness facility comprising 15 interesting stations, complete with QR codes for exercise ideas and instructions, any time for free.

The site on Lillooet Street at 27th Avenue has been selected.  We have received some funds from the Vancouver School Board through federal funding to start this initiative, but additional funds need to be raised. This is a very expensive undertaking that will require the support of the community to raise the $50,000 to $90,000 needed to create a useful, accessible space that everyone will be proud of.

Please contribute what you can and share the link with as many people as possible in the community or elsewhere who might like to support this effort to shape a healthier, fitter community.

Thanks for your support.
